  • Wedding Report: Helen & Paul, Part Five

    14 Sep 2012

This man, this shy, retiring man who, for so many years had hidden behind a keyboard under the weight of his shaggy hair, now stood masterfully in the middle of the dance floor by himself. In the corner behind him, his new wife’s eyes remained glued to his back as she tantalisingly raised the skirts of her dress and grinned inanely at what was about to happen.

  • Wedding Report: Helen & Paul, Part Four

    13 Sep 2012

“Helen and I first met 12 years ago,” Paul remembered. “When my full-proof techniques of wooing her failed abysmally, which I probably shouldn’t have been too surprised about as they included not talking to her very much and giving her the distinct impression that I disliked her immensely.”

  • Wedding Report: Helen & Paul, Part Three

    12 Sep 2012

As the woman in question circulated around the room, it was easy to see how Paul could have fallen in love with her. She greeted every new face with a kiss and subconsciously her tactile, loving nature overflowed as she held earnestly on to hands whilst speaking or enveloped people into a tight hug.

  • Wedding Report: Helen & Paul, Part Two

    11 Sep 2012

The moment in which the registrar began to say the vows that Paul and Helen would in turn repeat to make their marriage seemed to swell around the couple in a magnetic force. Helen looked up at Paul, emotions dancing across her face as she looked into his earnest eyes and heard him begin to say that he would take her to be his wedded wife, to love, honour and cherish her.

  • Wedding Report: Helen & Paul, Part One

    10 Sep 2012

Paul strolled casually through the lobby with his little girl in his arms. Harriet murmured away in his ear, pointing to random objects and people, knowing that she had her father’s full attention. Whatever nerves he may have felt were offset by the twinkle in his eye, a knowing glimmer that this day was going to be brilliant.

About*

The Wedding Reporter was a unique idea conceived in the early spring of 2011. The way it works is essentially that I'm a professional wedding guest, soaking up the ambience, the atmosphere and the details of the day in order to go away and transcribe it all into a literary creative non-fiction account of the day.
