  • The Long Kiss Goodbye

    24 Feb 2012

He laid a tender kiss on her forehead and then another and another until his arms fully circled her waist and pulled her body tightly against his own. She succumbed to the moment and sobs shuddered through her body as he rested his chin on the top of her head. He whispered soothing words and stroked her hair until suddenly she could pull back her face and smile at his musings and throw her tear-stained cheeks back with a guffaw. Tears danced with mirth in her glassy eyes.

    20 Feb 2012

As the Luxury Wedding Show at Grosvenor House Hotel, a JW Marriott hotel on Park Lane eased into action, the grand ballroom began to fill with stylish couples seeking the most exquisite suppliers for their wedding day. Louis Vuitton, Jimmy Choo and a whole lot of Barbour strutted through the aisles of hand-selected vendors as they sought out photographers, florists and frocks.

  • Wedding Report: Franky & Carl, Part Five

    17 Feb 2012

Groups came and went from the dance floor and Carl and Franky ran back and forth to bid farewell to guests departing from the celebrations. In the middle of the room, Carl’s tiny niece in an eye-catching red dress commanded the attention of everyone as she shimmied and twirled to every song with the joyous delight of someone who has just discovered how to walk independently. Having broken free from the entertainments of the crèche, Izzy tugged at Franky’s hand, pulling her mother on to the dance floor. Carl looked up from the group he was laughing with to see the two beautiful women in his life spinning each other around the polished dance floor, bathed in opulent lighting, lashings of love and the widest of smiles.

  • Wedding Report: Franky & Carl, Part Four

    16 Feb 2012

In the shadow of her sadness, her kilowatt smile still lit up the room as she spoke falteringly but fondly of their missing loved ones. Talking tenderly of her great aunt Liz and their beloved friend Anne, Franky looked down occasionally on her husband for reassurance before launching into yet another amusing anecdote that made her guests fall that little bit more in love with her.

  • Wedding Report: Franky & Carl, Part Three

    15 Feb 2012

“Old Macdonald had a farm…” A lone voice desperately broke through the chaos. Jesse stopped in his tracks. A few tentative other voices joined in, “Ee i, ee i oh…” The lone voice grew stronger as Jesse turned his face up to the choir of adults singing especially for him. “And on that farm he had a…a cow!” A melee of voices lifted into the crisp air, “Ee i, ee i OH!” Captivated, Jesse watched intently as the audience before him and the family behind him created a symphony of odd farmyard noises. The shutter of Eliza’s camera clicked triumphantly and there preserved for posterity and for the first visit by his future girlfriend in many years time, was the moment when an entire wedding party had erupted into nursery rhyme purely for Jesse’s amusement.

  • Wedding Report: Franky & Carl, Part Two

    14 Feb 2012

With a deep breath and a focused resolve, she looked at Carl and promised to love him in the good times and the bad. The thought of all the times they had already weathered together flew into her mind, her voice wavered, and she took a deep breath. She promised to love him when life was easy and when it seemed hard, when their love was simple and when it was an effort. They promised to cherish each other and to always hold the other in the highest regard. With huge, knowing smiles, they gave these things to each other there and then, as well as for all the days of their lives to come.

  • Wedding Report: Franky & Carl, Part One

    13 Feb 2012

An audience of hundreds of faces watched intently as Franky reached the top of the aisle and drank in the sight of Carl absolutely beaming with pride at the sight of his exquisitely glamorous bride. An enormous smile spread across his face as he took in the sight of her porcelain face, gently rolled hair and sweeping elegance and nodded appreciatively.

About*

The Wedding Reporter was a unique idea conceived in the early spring of 2011. The way it works is essentially that I'm a professional wedding guest, soaking up the ambience, the atmosphere and the details of the day in order to go away and transcribe it all into a literary creative non-fiction account of the day.
